Food is a substance that a living creature normally consumes for sustenance and energy. It is derived from plants and animals and includes protein, carbohydrates, fat, and other essential nutrients. The process of absorption and digestion are essential for nutrition. Plants and animals convert solar energy into food. Humans were initially omnivores, but evolved into hunters and farmers when they sought security in agriculture. Food is the most common source of energy for humans and animals.

Although humans have adapted various primary means of feeding themselves, the most common have been agriculture, horticulture, and pastoralism. Food has also served as a cultural carrier and a major force for globalization. Food has been widely spread throughout the world, as early European trade and colonial expansion spread hot red pepper, corn, and sweet potatoes throughout Europe. Consequently, food has been the foundation for human civilization. Similarly, humans have adapted to different climates and climatic conditions.

Hummingbirds feed on the nectar of flowers, a sweet, sugary liquid that entices pollinators to explore the flowers. Flowers that are particularly attractive to hummingbirds include foxgloves, petunias, hollyhocks, and columbines. You can attract these wonderful creatures to your garden with hummingbird feeders. If you are unable to grow your own flowers, consider purchasing a special hummingbird food for your garden.

The plant kingdom offers many sources of protein for people on a budget. A few examples of plant-based protein sources include whole grains, nuts, and legumes. These sources of protein are more economical than meat, but are still nutritious. Eggs are also a good option. Fish is an excellent source of protein. Besides being a great source of omega-3s, fish is also rich in vitamins and minerals. You can also find a variety of other sources of protein, like nuts, seeds, and soy products.

Regardless of the source of protein, red meat may be detrimental for your health. Research from Harvard Chan School of Public Health shows that red meat is linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and death. Using plant-based protein sources to replace red meat may reduce your risk of developing heart disease and other cardiovascular problems. Besides red meat, you should also replace it with a healthy source of protein such as fish or poultry. You can enjoy meat and poultry while reducing the amount of fat in your best progressive diet.
